The Nurture Nature Foundation (NNF) has evolved through the years, engaging in its own programs and projects as well as providing support to other organizations. Currently, it focuses its resources on two primary areas.
The first area of focus is on the promotion of sustainable transit. NNF’s founder believed that one of the most important things that can be done to make this planet more habitable for present and future generations is to foster sustainable transit systems in urban areas. In keeping with this conviction, NNF has invested over a million dollars in recent years in research and advocacy in favor of such a transit system in New York City and elsewhere. The work it funded is described in part on the website of Nurture New York's Nature (NNYN), an organization that NNF helped established and maintain as a separate entity for nearly a decade, which has now become a program of NNF as a result of a merger.
The other area to which NNF has devoted significant resources in recent years, both directly and through support of a related organization, is outreach concerning water-related and other environmental issues. In particular, NNF has been instrumental in establishing a center in the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania that has developed nationally recognized tools for community outreach about flooding, and is now also a center of local community involvement in the region. NNF has an office and several staff members working at the center, which is a joint endeavor of NNF and the Nurture Nature Center, Inc. (NNC), a local Pennsylvania nonprofit that NNF helped establish and still assists that has obtained extraordinary recognition in a short period.
