Amorous Laughing Gulls indulge in some summer seaside activity at Coney Island. These birds nest by the thousands in nearby Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, in salt marshes located at the foot of a JFK runway. Their numbers are occasionally culled by the Port Authority to avoid the risk of collisions with aircraft.
