Monarch Butterfly
(Pelham Bay Park, September)
A butterfly resting in a dried flower of a wild carrot - Queen Anne's Lace. Monarchs migrate through New York City on way to central Mexico. As Caterpillars, Monarchs feed on poisonous milkweed plants, sequestering the plant's poison to use as their own chemical defense against predatory birds.
