Why Salt Marshes Matter. Pelham Bay Park, Bronx
CUNY students and NNYN Naturalist David Rosane explore coastal salt marshes of Spartina grass in Pelham Bay Park. Numerous clams, Ribbed mussels and Blue Crabs, some of the many denizens of the marsh, can be found here at low tide. Salt marshes are home to 75% of all our marine fish; they reduce the impact of storm surges; they filter our water. One acre of marsh is sufficient to cleanse all grey water produced by NYC in a day.
